Dynamic Strings

The Dynamic Strings ensemble was founded recently by four wonderful friends and colleagues.  All were members of the former Florida Philharmonic Orchestra.  The moniker “Dynamic Strings” is new to the group, but the four members have concertised together for some time already.  In recent years, the group has played at the Mozart Festival in Coral Gables, the Chamber Music Concert Series for Plantation Methodist Church, the Friends of Music in Coral Springs, the Southeast Taiwanese Music Festival at FIU and the 2004 Chinese New Year’s Celebration in Ft. Lauderdale’s River Front, an outdoor concert that entertained thousands of people in the community.

Huifang Chen, leader and violinist, is a native of Taiwan.  She received her Bachelor of Music Degree from the Curtis Institute of Music and her Master of Music from the University of Miami. Chen is in her second season as the Orchestra Director at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.  In addition to teaching full time at Douglas, she also serves as the Associate Conductor of the Principal Orchestra of the Florida Youth Orchestra, and is also on the faculty of the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. She plays as concertmaster of two local orchestras including the Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra and the Boca Raton Philharmonic Symphonia.  As an international violin soloist, she has appeared with many orchestras around the globe. She was the winner of the 1999 Young Concert Artist of the Year awarded by the National Concert Hall of Taipei, Taiwan and a Concerto Competition Winner at the University of Miami in 2003.

Eddie Martinez, violinist and pianist, was born in New York and moved to Miami when he was five.  He began studying the piano when he was six and the violin when he was twelve.  Eddie attended the University of Miami where his major was piano.  He was a Concerto Competition Winner at UM while he studied with Rosalind Sackstein.  Eddie plays as a violinist with the Palm Beach Opera, the Boca Raton Philharmonic Symphonia, the Miami City Ballet, and is the principal second violinist with the Ars Flores Symphony.  He is also in demand as a piano accompanist.  Martinez and Chen released their first collaboration CD, “A Musical Journey”, two summers ago with Eddie at the piano.

Yue Tang, cellist, was the associate principal of the former Florida Philharmonic Orchestra.  Born in Beijing, China, Mr. Tang studied cello at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, the University of Southern California and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. In 1996, Mr. Tang recorded his first CD with “Ensemble Eclipse” for the German label “Wergo”.  He was the prize winner of several music competitions such as the Rio Hondo Young Musician Concerto Competition, the Marina del Rey Concerto Competition, the Chinese-American Showcase Competition and the Kingsville International Competition.  He plays with the Palm Beach Opera, the Atlantic Classic Orchestra, the Symphony of Americas, and is the principal cellist of the Ars Flores Symphony Orchestra and the co-principal cellist of the Boca Raton Philharmonic Symphonia.  Tang also devotes himself as a music educator. Currently, he directs the Repertory Strings of the Florida Youth Orchestra, and is on faculty at the Palm Beach Atlantic University.
